The town entered world history with the victory of French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the Battle of Austerlitz, also known as the Battle of the Three Emperors, in the fields to the west of Slavkov on 2 December 1805.
We will be visiting Slavkov Chateau, a national cultural monument since 2008. The first floor of the chateau is the most interesting part of the tour of the building, giving visitors the chance of seeing the state rooms of the Kaunitz residence with their period furnishings and works of art, and their opulent frescoes and stucco ornamentation; the tour also take in part of the picture collection of the Kaunitz family, the Ancestors’ Hall with its portraits of the most important owners of the chateau, the Rubens Hall with copies of Rubens’ large canvases, the Historical Hall where a truce was signed after the Battle of Austerlitz, the Chapel of the Holy Cross, and other rooms.
In the north wing of the chateau, the guided tour surveys the household culture of the aristocracy from the Renaissance to the 19th century, featuring a Renaissance tapestry, the Flower Lounge, a “Napoleonic” Empire lounge, the library, an armoury with a comprehensive collection of armaments and weaponry from the 16th to the 18th century, the Fashion Hall, the Theatre Hall and other premises.

Lunch follows in a restaurant in Slavkov, followed by departure back to Hotel International.
